1. Lecture discussion on Unit 7. A Genre-based Approach to Writing a Research Essay
2. Activity: You have already chosen a topic in Unit 6. Now, start expanding your essay into a research essay by following
the instructions below.
2.1. With your own critical essay, expand it with gathered sources or materials.
2.2. In the gathered materials with complete sources of information, use a single colored highlighter to mark sentences
that are included in the research essay.
2.3. Make sure that the highlighted texts are directly quoted, well paraphrased, and/or substantially summarized in the
research essay. Avoid plenty of direct quotations. Include not more than 10 cited sources.
2.4. Write your research essay manuscript not more than 1,000 words(excluding the list of references). Strictly follow the
format found in the next slides. The template is also provided at my homepage. Finally, edit your paper well.
2.5. Consultation schedule for your writing process is listed: November 17 and 24 and December 1.
2.6. Submit your essay, gathered materials, and research essay via email ([email protected]) on December 8
(Tuesday), the final exam day.
