Description and Objectives

Fall 2018

The Analysis of English Prose and Composition course applies the principles and methods of writing in carrying out research-based compositions of various topics. To incorporate concrete content-based learning and classroom experience, graduate school students will develop topics that are engaged with highly critical, argumentative, persuasive, and informative outputs while, at the same time, are well equipped with the principles of organization, revision, and editing. In addition, they will be exposed to proper in-text and parenthetical citations and referencing that may help them become more articulate and confident in any professional tasks.


Objectives:
​By the end of the course, students will have:
1.reacted to social and academic or professional issues based on personal experience and general observation;
2.applied the principles of scholarly writing;
3.effectively paraphrased and summarized external texts to supplement personal views; and,
4.shown enthusiasm and commitment towards completion of academic challenges.

Grading

Grading is done on a curve. It means only the very top 30% of students can get an A/A+ grade, the next 40% only can get B/B+, and the lowest 30% will be awarded C grade or lower. You are competing against each other. Grade distribution: 30% - midterm exam; 30% - final exam; 40% - class standing which includes tests, attendance, and class behavior.
